Chloe & Declan are the perfect example of when opposites attract; Chloe is a vivacious, larger than life lawyer and Declan is her counterpart. Together they are the perfect pair.
With the unenviable task of planning their wedding three times — thanks to lockdowns and border restrictions — Chloe and Declan tied their love knot at Moana Hall, Perth on the 7th August 2021.
Their wedding stationery was largely inspired by the venue - with its beautiful arched windows, dramatic ceilings and Gatsby-era interiors. Chloe knew she wanted arches incorporated into the signage and had already chosen moody florals that would inform the colour palette. The stationery incorporated a custom typeface that gave a nod to the 1920's whilst still feeling contemporary.
How did the two of you meet?
A cheeky right swipe on Tinder.
What was the highlight of your wedding day?
Too many to choose! However actually being able to get married after two previously scheduled dates was epic!
Where did you source inspiration for your day?
The first wedding that we planned was going to be a spring wedding and close to the coast. When we rescheduled for a date in winter that all changed. And then when we decided on Moana Hall - with its Gatsby vibes, striking black bar and teal velvet booths - I knew I wanted to continue that vibe. The brief was simple, elegant, moody and dramatic! Colour inspiration was deep red, black, gold. This was with my original non-traditional wedding dress in mind, which was a gold number. However after seeing another bride on Instagram style it ... differently ... I couldn’t un-see that. I changed my dress 3 weeks before our wedding dress and it still worked perfectly!
Who were your favourite suppliers to work with throughout the process
Every. Single. One. Perth got locked down in the days before our second scheduled wedding and we had to cancel it very last minute. Every single vendor was amazing and worked with us to reschedule our day for 5 weeks later. Not one single person, despite losing out on income and opportunity made us feel bad about making our decision - we felt nothing but overwhelming love and support from everyone.
What do you love most about the stationery we created for you day? How did you find your experience with The Blackline Bottega?
I love how the stationery reflected, and tied in with, the whole style of the wedding. It embodied simplicity and elegance with clean, crisp design and a luxe look and feel. We chose arch shapes to match the glorious arches in Moana Hall. Lauren was amazing - understood exactly what I wanted and worked with me to make sure it was perfect! Well everything was perfect except my foam board cutting skills - don’t look too close at the welcome sign! But Lauren’s foresight also meant we left off the date from our welcome sign!
What advice would you give to newly engaged couples’ planning their wedding?
Don’t plan a wedding during a pandemic! Other than that, I recommend choosing a few things that are important to you and keep coming back to them during the planning process. For us, we wanted a big party with not much formality, lots of food and drinks. We chose a cocktail reception and did things our way. Don’t do things because you think you have to. We cut a lot of traditional formalities to avoid awkwardly being the centre of attention. For example, we didn’t want to be “announced” into our reception, so we made sure we were back at the reception before everyone else so we could welcome everyone.
What most excites you about your life together?
One thing I always say to Declan is that I wish I had known him my whole life as we didn’t met until we were well into our 30s. However we both know that we met at the perfect time - both of us were life marinated enough to be right for each other and it wouldn’t have been like this if we met in our 20s. We have so many plans for our life and I look forward to our continued adventures!
